Down the rabbit hole

“Down the rabbit hole” is an English expression that stems from Alice in Wonderland. It is ordinarily used as a metaphor to express the feeling of delving into something new and unknown – a confusing and strange state, especially when the end seems to be unpredictable. Thus, this feeling is compared to a rabbit hole. I filmed this video during the Covid-19 lockdown, and consequently decided to title it “Down the rabbit hole”. While working under these restrictive conditions, I focused on aspects I had previously not touched upon in my work. Beforehand I had focused on film scenes or virtual worlds, so, I decided to record insects and nature – an unknown world which we often ignore.

In this journey, my intention was to portray the beautiful, unknown, and non-human, and create a video-anesthesia-mantra, resembling guided meditations or pseudo-guides, which we listen to in tough times.
