Bad Romance, 2010

Disasters are phenomena’s that affect the stability and continuity in our lives and often produce irreversible changes. For most of us, these disasters are something strange or distant. These disasters remain on the news or on TV, films, or in our imagination. In this video, I show some destroyed landscapes while a girl listens to music. This work was shot in September 2010, after a fire erupted near the Mariola mountains in Alicante. My intention was to exhibit the experience of the disaster and weird beauty of the landscapes, as well as the power and danger of human nature. The fire was allegedly caused by a firefighter who was unable to work due to depression. Months later, newspapers revealed that this disaster occurred due to political interest to use and build upon this land.
